Quaker Institute for the Future Biotechnology Project

One of QIF’s interests and concerns – identified through the summer research seminars held at Bar Harbor, Maine – is innovative technologies, particularly new biotechnologies and nanotechnology. These technologies promise great benefits but are fraught with unknown risks, particularly in the long term. The QIF biotechnology project seeks to engage Quakers and other people of faith in a discernment process – to help us identify a way forward that is in keeping with our traditional testimonies and a vision of a world where peace, social justice and environmental protection are the norm.

Additional information on biotechnology and nanotechnology can be found on the Canadian Institute for Environmental Law And Policy (CIELAP) website.

QIF would like to take its concerns around these technologies – and its suggestions for a way forward – to a broader audience.
